The sport of auto racing developed very shortly after the invention of the automobile itself. In the United States, NASCAR is the most watched auto racing sport. NASCAR which is short for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, has a long tradition in the U.S. that dates back more than a half a century. The very first NASCAR race was held on Feb. 15, 1948, at Daytona Beach. NASCAR has multiple racing series to its credit, including the Sprint Cup Series, the Nationwide Series, and the Craftsman Truck Series.
