Super Bowl XLII hero David Tyree and Ike Hilliard have both signed one-day contracts with the New York Giants so they can retire with the team.
Tyree is best remembered for one of the best catches in Super Bowl history, which helped set up the winning touchdown against the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. In June however, when visiting the team, Tyree told reporters that the end was near for his seven-year career.
Hilliard played in 98 games, starting 92 of them for the Giants between 1997 and 2004. He finished fifth in franchise history in receptions with 368 catches for a total of 4,630 yards and 27 touchdowns. Hilliard also played four years in Tampa Bay, his last season coming in 2008. He currently is the wide receivers coach for the Florida Tuskers of the UFL.
Tyree meanwhile played for the Ravens last season and was remaining hopeful that he could join with another team this season before deciding to retire. He will finish his career with 85 special teams tackles, 54 receptions for 650 yards and four touchdowns and of course that one truly unforgettable Super Bowl catch.
